First Time in America Episode One
Liza and her husband, Chikobi have been married for 10 years. They have lived in peace and they absolutely love each other so much. People in their street even use them to set example of what a great family should look like. They have two beautiful children. Liza is 35 while her husband is 40.

Liza and her husband are not poor. They have money. Liza works as an English teacher in a government college and her salary is big because she has been working there for 15 years. She is now the vice princepal of the school. Her husband owns a popular supermarket in the estate where they live. That is where everyone shops. Money is never their problem at all.

One day, Liza heard about a particular scholarship opportunity that would enable her travel to USA for her masters degree. It has always been her dream to travel to USA. Now, she has the opportunity. She applied for the scholarship without telling her husband. Luckily for her, she was sellected and offered a scholarship to do her masters at Harvard University. She was overwhelmed with joy when she returned home to tell her husband on the day she got the email from the school.

“I hope my husband will allow me to travel. I will be so happy if he approves it and allows me to travel to America. This has always been my dream and God has finally made my dream to come true. I can’t wait to announce the good news to my husband. I just pray he will allow me to travel. Imagine getting a masters scholarship worth $35,000 to study in Harvard University. This is a once in a lift time opportunity and I’m not ready to throw it away. I’m sure my husband will approve it.” Lisa said as she was driving home from school that evening.

Soon, she arrived home. Luckily for her, Chikobi, her husband was at home resting. He went to the shop earlier in the morning but decided to return home to rest and allow his staff to take care of the supermarket. He was very happy to see his wife.

“My darling wife! I’m so happy you are back from work. I have been lonely at home. Please, change your dress quickly and join me in the bedroom let us play.” Her husband said, but Liza did not even wait to remove her clothes. She just rushed into the bedroom to announce the good news to her husband.

“There is no need to remove my clothes. There is something I want to tell you.” Liza tells her husband.

“What is it that you want to tell me? You are sounding so urgent and your voice is making me scared. What happened?” Chikobi asked his wife with concern on his face.

“There is no problem my husband. It is even a good news. I got a scholarship to study for my masters degree at Harvard University, USA. I mean, the whole thing is free. The scholarship is worth $35000. All I have to do is pay for my visa and flight ticket to USA. Please my husband, can I go? It has always been my dream to do my masters degree abroad. I will be so happy if you approve this request.” Liza said to her husband.

Surprisingly, her husband was overwhelmed with joy. He was geniunely happy for her.

“Why are you saying it as if you are begging me? You don’t have to beg. I will give you all the support. I will pay for your visa and your flight. I will give you money to travel. You will get everything you need. I’m so proud that you are my wife. You should dream big. In fact, after your masters degree, you should be thinking of doing your PhD.” Her husband said.

“Thank you my husband. I’m so lucky to have you as my husband. You are such a good man. I don’t know what my life would have been without you. I promise you, throughout my stay in America, I will keep myself pure. I will not sleep with another man. I will preserve myself until I come back to you.” Liza said.

“I also promise you that I will stay and wait for you. I will not sleep with another woman until you return.” Her husband responded.

Preparation started for her journey. Liza applied for her visa and got it. Two months later, she said goodbye to her husband and her children as she boarded a plane in Lagos on her way to America to commence her studies at Harvard University.

As she was in the plane, something happened. A flight attended came to call her.

“Someone asked me to call you. The person just wants to see you briefly. The person is the business class. Please follow me. I promise, it’s just for a few minutes.” The flight attendant said. Liza did not want to go, but the lady insisted that it is for something good. She followed the flight attendant.

When she got to the business class, she loved the place. She wondered if it is still in the same airplane. She saw a handsome white man sitting comfortably like someone sitting in a room.

“Wow! This place looks nice. Is this the same airplane?” Liza asked.

“Welcome, beautirful woman. I saw you at the airport and I said to myself that I must invite you be with me once I’m in the airplane. I’m happy you agreed to come. Please, stay here with me until we land in America. I’m a billionaire and I’m not married. Once we land in America, I will give you a house, a car and other things that will make you comfortable.” The white man said. Liza was shocked.

She wanted to leave but the luxuries and enjoyment she was seeing held her back. There was assorted food. The man, whose name is Roberts placed a bundle of dollars in beside his seat. The money was attracting Liza and she is tempted to stay with him.

“This man has so much money. Let me stay with him. Maybe, I will get some money to use and enjoy life in America during my studies. I know my husband gave me money but it is not enough.” She said to herself. She stayed and the flight attendant brought her bags for her. The man gave her $50,000.

“Take it! It’s all yours.” Robert said. Liza was happy. She is already thinking of how she will use the money to flex in America.

“My husband will not know. Also, the man is not asking me to sleep with him. It’s just to keep him company in the airplane. When we land, I will disappear and leave him.” Liza said. But two hours into the flight, everything changed. Robert said he wants to sleep with her.

“Please, come close let us do it. I really like you and I want to take care of you. Just give it to me. No one will know. I will give you more money.” Robert said. Initially, Liza refused but as time went on, she could not resist the man anymore. He kept demanding for it.

“Lets do it, but it’s only once.” Liza said. She allowed the man to sleep with her right inside the airplane. Robert gave her another $50,000.

“I have not even landed in America and I have broken the promise I made to my husband. I slept with a white man I just met simply because of $100,000.” Liza said to herself when they finished.

The flight to the United States of America lasted many hours. Liza is enjoying herself with the white man named Roberts. It is not only that the man has money, the man is also good in bed. The man handled her very well when they were making love on the airplane. Robert gave her one particular style she has never experienced before. That style was so good that her head began to spin.

“Even my husband has never done it like this. This man is so good. He has young blood. It is like my husband is getting old. But this white man finished me today. I wish I can be doing it with him every day. He has money and he is also good in bedroom action. What else am I looking for? I know it is not good to forget my husband, but at this point, I cannot help it. My husband, please, forgive me. Let me tell the man to come and touch me again.” Liza said to herself. They are still on the airplane. She doesn’t know when they will land.

“Robert! Please, come closer to me. Come and make love to me again. Please, do it exactly the way you did the first one. If you do it well, I will become your girlfriend in America. I’m going to stay in America for two years and I don’t want to be lonely. My husband is not with me. If you promise to be servicing me well, I will become your permanent girlfriend. Please, come, I need you.” Liza said. Robert likes what he is hearing. He is the type of a man who is never tired of such a thing.

“If you want, I can be giving it to you every day. I told you I’m a billionaire. Even if I’m sleeping in my bed, money will be coming in. You don’t have to worry about money. I will give you money and attention, plus excellent bedroom action.” Robert said. They started making love on the airplane again.

“You are better than my husband. My husband does not have strenght. It is now that I understand that my husband is not good. I have not tasted another man before. My husband is the only man I have ever known. I used to think that he is the best in the bedroom, but it turns out he is still learning work. You are a professional in this field. Thank you for inviting me to your space on this airplane.” Liza said.

“I told you that you will enjoy every moment. Please, what are you even going to do in America?” Robert asked.

“I’m going to resume studies at Harvard University. I got admission to study for my masters. It has always been my dream to travel to the United States of America. I’m happy I met you. It means my stay in America will be joyous and filled with a lot of enjoyment.” Liza said.

“When you get to America, you will live in my house. No need for you to pay for any house. No need to live in the accomodation provided by Harvard University. I will give you everything you need. I will give you money and I will give you a car you will be using to go to school. I will basically change your life so that you will enjoy life with me in America.” Robert said. They were still making love.

Just then, the pilot announced that the plane is about to land at the John F Kennedy International Airport, New York City. The airplane started descending. But Robert and Liza were still enjoying themselves. They were still making love until the airplane landed.

“The airplane has landed and we have not finished. Please, don’t stop. We must finish before we come down.” Liza said. Even Robert did not want to come down. Everyone on the airplane has already left and were departing the airport and Liza and Robert were still there.

“We have to go down before someone will come and catch us.” Liza said when she noticed that the whole thing was taking too long. Robert agreed with her. They dressed up, took their bags and left the airplane.

A convoy of expensive cars were already waiting for them at the airport. Liza was shocked by the wealth displayed by Robert. She considered herself lucky to have such a man in her life.

“I’m lucky to have met you. I’m lucky to have you in my life. You have been so good to me and I’m sure I will enjoy America because of you.” Liza said with a smile as they were riding to Robert’s house. The whole place was so beautiful and the ride was smooth in the airconditioned car.

“I told you. You will enjoy yourself. I really like you. That’s why I chose you. I’m still not married. I have been looking for a beautiful black woman to be with me. You are the chosen one. If you stay with me, you will never regret it.” Robert said. Soon, they arrived his house. It was a big mansion. The house looks like a palace.

“Is this your house?” Liza asked when she saw the building.

“Yes, it is just one of my houses. I have houses in many places and cities. This is just one of them. Would you want to live with me?” Robert asked.

“You are truly rich and I appreciate the fact that you are giving me a place to live. However, my school, Harvard University is located in Massachussets and that’s where I want to live.” Liza said.

“Alright, I will rent a beautiful apartment there for you.” Robert said.

Liza spent the night at Robert’s house. They made love several times. When Chikobi, Liza’s husband called her, she refused to pick the call. He wanted to know if she arrived safely, but she did not want to even hear his voice. She has seen a richer man.

“Why will I pick the call of a poor man when I have found a rich man who is giving me everything I want? In fact, I don’t think I want my husband again. I have found the right man for me. I will make sure this man marries me so that I will become a citizen of America. My journey has started. I found success early in America.” Liza said.

It is now two weeks since Liza travelled to America. Her husband, Chikobi has not heard from her. She did not call her husband to tell him she has landed in the US. She also refused to pick his calls. Back in Nigeria, family members were worried that something may have happened to her. Everyone was calling her line but she was not picking up. Her husband was seriously worried.

“I love my wife so much and I don’t want anything to happen to her. If I had known that it will be like this, I wouldn’t have allowed her to travel. How can she refuse to call me for two weeks? She did not even call to let me know that she has arrived. What is going on? She promised not to forget me, but it is only two weeks after the journey and I have not been able to even hear her voice.” Chikobi said to himself.

People have been telling him not to worry. They insist that his wife might be busy with her studies, but Chikobi refused to accept such a flimsy reason. He strongly believes something terrible is going on.

“My wife cannot just disappear into thin air. She cannot just stop calling me barely two weeks after travelling to America. That is very strange. I have to do something. Maybe, someone is holding my wife hostage, or she did not go to America, or there is something stopping her from calling us. She cannot just abandon me and the children. She loves me. She loves her children and I can’t believe what is happpening.” Chikobi said.

He could not just understand why his wife behaved the way she did. She decided that the best was to call the school. She found the phone number of his wife’s school in America and called them. Someone picked the call.

“Please, did my wife resume school? She left Nigeria to resume her masters degree studies. She has not called me since she left Nigeria. I would like to know if she arrived the school. Is she now in the school? I’m so worried and everyone wants to know if she is fine.” Chikobi said. The person who picked the call asked for time to verify the school’s records to see if someone with that name has resumed.

A few days later, the school called Chikobi and notified him that indeed, his wife has resumed and that she is fine and well.

“Why then has she refused to contact me? Why is she not calling me? Why is she not taking my calls. She has not heard my voice or the children’s voice for many days and she is not worried about it. This is not good and it is highly unusual.” Chikobi said to himself after he dropped the call.

“I think the best thing to do is to go to America and look for her. I cannot just stay here and do nothing while I don’t know what is happening to my wife. She abandonned me too early after leaving Nigeria and I strongly believe someone is manupulating her with charms. I will apply for a visa and travel to America.” Chikobi said.

He started making arrangements to trave to America. He quickly applied for a visa. The wait for the visa was too long. But he kept praying for his wife and being patient. Finally, three months after he applied for the visa, he was told it was successful. He quickly packed his bags and flew to America.

“So four months after I permitted my wife to go for her masters degree in America, I’m now travelling to go and look for her. This is so strange. I never expected to make this king of journey at all. I thought everything would be fine, but the moment she boarded the airplane, she seemed to have forgoten me and the children. Did someone confuse her with charms? Did someone confuse her with money? But I gave her all the money she needed and even more. Why is she behaving like this? Maybe she is no longer in her right senses. My wife can never betray me. I trust her so much. I know she is a faithful wife and she cannot leave me for another man. I believe something terrible must have happened that would make her not to call me or to even try to hear from the children for a whole four months. I’m going to America to rescue my wife.” Chikobi said to himself while in the airplane.

Meanwhile, Liza has resumed school. She did not know that her husband was coming to look for her in America. She was enjoying her life with Robert. Just as he promised, Robert rented a beautiful apartment for her near the school. He also bought her a car. Everything was happening so fast that even Liza herself was finding it hard to believe that she has abandoned her family and stuck with a white man.

“I can’t even believe that this is happening. It is just like a movie to me. From the day I met Robert in the airplane to how he accepted me into his life without even knowing me well. I’m blown away by how fast my life has moved in America.” She said to herself one evening. It was a weekend and she was about to go back to Robert’s house as she used to do every weekend.

“I can’t wait to see my Robert. I have missed him so much. My husband, Chikobi is free to marry another woman in Nigeria. I no longer care about him and my children. I have moved on with my life. I have seen money. I have decided not to remove the sugar Robert is putting in my mouth. My life is now better than what it used to be when I was married to my husband in Nigeria. Now, I have so much money and I don’t even have to work or struggle for anything. I have a big apartment, a nice car and I fly around anytime I want. This is the kind of life I like to live. I was just pretending to be a good wife in Nigeria because I didn’t want to disturb anyone. Now that I’m America, I will live my life to the fullest.” Liza said.

Soon, she drove to New York City to be with her boyfriend, Robert who is always around waiting for her. Robert is a tech billionaire and he has people working for him. He will never run out of money even if he stops working. When Liza arrived, she saw him relaxing outside the house, chilling with a bottle of wine.

“I have missed you so much.” Robert said. He stood up and hugged Liza.

“I missed you too.” She said.

Meanwhile, Chikobi has just landed in America. However, his biggest problem is how to locate his wife. He doesn’t have her address. The only thing he knows is the name of the school.

“How am I going to find her? This is a big problem. I don’t even have her dress.” Chikobi said to himself.

When Chikobi arrived in America, he knew that his biggest problem would be how to find his wife’s address. He does not have it. It was the first time he was coming to America. However, he knows that she was studying at Harvard University in Massachusetts. That makes things easier for him. He decided that he was going to travel to the school from New York City.

“I think that is the best option. I know I will find her there. At least, I can ask around or ask the school authority to help me find my wife. If truly she resumed studies, I will find her there.” Chikobi said to himself. He paid for a train from New York City to Massachusetts. He was emotional when he entered the train.

“I’m happy that I came. Let it not be that my wife went missing and did not do anything to rescue her. Something bad must have happened to her. As a husband, it is my duty to do something to protect my wife.” He said as he was on the train.

After a few hours of train ride, he arrived in Massachusetts. He soon located the Harvard University campus. It was when he got there that he realised that it was a weekend.

“Today is Saturday, I will not see students. My wife will not be here today. I have to find a hotel to lodge in so that I can return on Monday.” Chikobi said to himself. He had money. Before coming to USA, he sold many of his properties, so he has enough money. He has money that can last him at least six months in America. He quickly got himself a hotel room and kept his bag there.

“I will stay in this room until I’m able to find my wife. I’m not leaving this country until I find my wife. She is the reason I came to America, and I must find her.” Chikobi said to herself. He slept that night thinking of the next few days. The only mission on his mind is how to find his wife. He had no idea that his wife was in New York City, enjoying the weekend with her boyfriend, Roberts, who was busy spoiling her with money and gifts.

Liza has fallen deeply in love with Robert. Except on days that she is in school, she can’t stay without him. Robert was a very good man. He knows how to take care of a woman. He also has a good heart. He knew that Liza was married, but he couldn’t help but love her. She was beautiful and smart. Robert is approaching 40, and he is still not married because he was looking for a perfect black woman who meets his specifications.

His relationship with Liza progressed with speed, beginning from when she saw her at the airport in Nigeria to the moment he bribed the flight attendant to allow them to stay in his space on the aeroplane. Everything was fast, and now, he plans to take it to the next level. He is tired of being single, and he wants to marry Liza. One night, he decided to tell her about his plans.

“We have been in a relationship for about four months now. I know that everything is happening fast. We made love the first day we met. We made love in the most unlikely places. It happened on the airplane. I enjoyed it and I know you enjoyed it as well. The truth is that I would like to marry you. However, I have one problem. You are a very good person. You are beautiful and smart. You are intelligent and kind. You are the woman I want to spend the rest of my life with. But you are married to another man. You didn’t divorce your husband before coming to America. How are we going to handle this? I cannot marry a woman who is already married.” Robert said.

“I’m so happy you have chosen to marry me. We can get married. My husband will not know, and he can’t do anything about it. I have already left Nigeria, and I don’t think I will go back. I will never go back to my husband. You are the only person who matters to me right now. You are the only person in my mind, and I will never leave you. Please go ahead and marry me. I can’t wait to wear your engagement ring.” Liza said.

“The engagement ring will not be a problem. I have already bought the ring. The only problem in my mind is that you are not properly divorced. Your husband is in Nigeria. I will not marry you if you are still married to your husband in Nigeria. We have to tell ourselves the truth. I’m a very rich person and I’m well-known. I have to do things right. Before I will marry you, you have to properly divorce your husband in Nigeria. I don’t know how you are going to do it, but that is what I want. I don’t care sponsoring you to Nigeria so that you can go and do it.” Robert said.

“So if I don’t divorce him, you will cancel our relationship?” Liza asked.

“No! I will continue to date you, but I will not marry you. I have to be sure that you and your husband are properly separated before getting married to you. I cannot marry another man’s wife. If you agree to go back to Nigeria, I will give you the money to go there and divorce him and then return to America. Once you are back, and I can see evidence of the divorce, we will get married. I truly love you, and I’m prepared to spoil you with money. The only thing stopping me is that you are married to another man. If you don’t divorce him, I may leave you and marry another person when the time comes.” Robert said. Liza was heartbroken, but she started mapping out her plans.

“So, if I can go to Nigeria and get a divorce from him, you will still marry me?” Liza asked.

“Yes! In fact, if you want to go tomorrow, I will pay for your flight and everything. Just let him know you are no longer interested in being his wife. Get a proper divorce and come back, and we will get married.” Robert said.

“Alright! I will go. I don’t want to lose you. You are the person I want to be with. Nothing will make me to lose you. I want to spend the rest of my life with you. You are a kind person. You have shown me so much love since I met you on the airplane. I’m ready to do everything you are asking me to do and even do more.” Liza said. That night, she did not sleep very well. She kept thinking of what to do next.

She started planning how to go to Nigeria. She knows that if she can move very fast, Roberts will buy her an engagement ring and marry her with speed. Two days later, she decided to tell him that she will travel to Nigeria within 24 hours so she can go and finalise the divorce. Robert agreed and gave her all the money she needed.

“Before I travel to Nigeria, I will go to Harvard University and pick up some of my clothes that I left there. I don’t know how many days I will stay in Nigeria.” She said to herself. She left Robert’s house and travelled to Harvard University.

Meanwhile, Chikobi, Liza’s husband, has decided that he will stand at the Harvard University gate with his wife’s framed photo as he is searching for her since he does not know the address of where she lives.

When he woke up at the hotel that morning, he went straight to the main gate of the school. He stood there with the framed photo and also asked some people. That was when his wife was driving into the school with her expensive car. She was going there to tell her supervisor that she would be travelling to Nigeria for a few days. As she was driving into the school, she saw her husband standing at the school gate with her framed photo.

“Who am I seeing? Is that not my husband? Is my eye paining me or what?” Liza asked herself.

When Liza saw her husband at the school gate, it felt like a dream. She thought she was not seeing well. She thought she was making a mistake. But she looked closer and saw that the person standing there was really her husband. At first, she didn’t know how to handle it. She didn’t know exactly how to react. But as she kept thinking about it, an idea quickly came into her mind.

“I think there is no need to travel to Nigeria anymore. My husband is already here. I know he is here to look for me. I haven’t called him since I travelled, so he was probably worried. I will go and meet him and take him to my apartment. Then, I will convince him to divorce me here in America. If he refuses to divorce me, I will do something that will put him in trouble and make life difficult for him in America. This is a perfect plan.” Liza said to herself. She quickly stopped her car and jumped down like a soldier. She rushed to her husband with joy and happiness, but she was only pretending.

“Oh! My dear husband, I have missed you so much. You came to look for me? I knew you would come.” Liza said as she jumped and hugged her husband pretentiously. She knows what she is doing. She wants to confuse her husband and make him to believe that she did not intentionally cut him off.

“Oh my God! I thought I will never see you again. What happened? Why did you not call me? You did not even care to hear the voice of our children. You just switched off your phone and cut us off as if we don’t matter to you anymore. Why did you do this to me? Did I offend you? I gave you everything you wanted. I gave you all the support both financially and emotionally. But the moment you landed in America, your phone suddently became unreachable. What happened? Can you explain yourself?” Chikobi asked his wife. He was shocked to see her, but he still wants to hear the full story immediately.

“Please, enter the car, let’s go home. When we get to my house, I will explain everything to you. Please, don’t be angry, it is not my fault. But let’s go to the house, I will explain myself fully.” Liza said. They entered the car and Liza started driving her husband to the house rented for her by Roberts. She is fully prepared to exploit the situation to her advantage.

“Who gave you money to buy such an expensive car? Is the car your own or you borrowed it from someone? This is a Lamborghini, who gave you money to buy an expensive car like this?” Chikobi asked when he entered the car.

“It’s my car. Someone gave me the car free of charge. The person also rented an apartment for me. The apartment is so nice. Don’t worry, when we get there, you will see things for yourself.” Liza said. She knows what she is doing. She wants to tell her husband the whole truth so that he will get and angry and leave her. If he gets angry and divorces her, she will have free chance to marry Roberts.

“The person who gave you a Lamborghini and rented an apartment for you, what job did you do for the person? And is the person a man or a woman?” Chikobi asked. He was not happy when he heard that someone else gave his wife a Lamborghini when he is still alive. Lamborghini is not a small car and he knows no one can give that free of charge to a beautiful woman like his wife.

“Well, the person is a man. The man has been so kind to me. Since I arrived in America, he has made my life easy and soft.” Liza said. Her husband did not say anything. Soon, they arrived in her apartment. Chikobi was shocked when they entered the apartment. It was so wide and beautiful.

“Wow! How were you able to afford all these things? I know the money I gave you was much but, it possibly couldn’t have paid for all these. How did you do it?” Her husband asked.

“I just told you that a man is supporting me. I met a white man who is treating me well. That is even why I have not called you. I have fallen in love with the man. His name is Roberts. I fell for him and he has been showering me with money and gifts. I have also slept with him many times. In fact, from the day I left Nigeria, I slept with him on the airplane. I can’t explain how it happened, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. The man is very rich. That is why I forgot about you people the moment I landed in America.” Liza said. She was not hiding anything. She wants to say everything the way it happened so that her husband will get angry and divorce her.

“After sleeping with me, the man bought that Lamborghini for me. He also paid for this apartment and bought all the nice things you are seeing here. I visit him every weekend to sleep with him. He is such a nice man.” Liza said. Her husband was just looking at her with his mouth open.

“Are you saying you slept with another man while still married to me? Why did you do such athing? I have never cheated on you. Ever since you left Nigeria, I have not even slept with any other woman. It is not even up to six months yet and you have started opening your honey pot for another man. Did I do anything to offend you? Where did I go wrong? Did I do a bad thing to have allowed you to come to America?” Chikobi asked. He was almost crying.

“You did not do any bad thing. But the man I found is richer than you. Within just a few months of knowing him, he has given me more money than you can ever give me in a lifetime. It is only a foolish woman that will leave such a man and come back to you. Also, the man is an American citizen.” She said.

“I’m sure the man captured your heart with charms. Otherwise, there is no way you would be talking about him like this. When we were in Nigeria, you never cheated on me. Why did you change so quickly.” Her husband asked.

“I changed because I have seen the light. I have seen a richer man. I have seen a white man and I really love him.” Liza said.

“So that’s why you decided to abandon us? You did not even call to know how your children are doing. Are you saying you are no longer interested in the marriage?” Chikobi asked.

“Yes! That’s what I’m saying. In fact, before you came here, I was preparing to come to Nigeria to divorce you. Now that you are here, everything is easier. Please, I want a divorce. I have seen a better man that I like. He said he wants to marry me.” Liza said.

“No! I will not divorce you. You are still my wife. If you want, sleep with all the men in America, I will still remain your husband. This marriage is for better for worse.” Her husband said.

Chikobi still wants to continue her marriage with Liza, but she doesn’t want to. Despite all he has heard from her, despite hearing that she slept with another man, he still told her that the marriage must continue.

“We are still husband and wife. Stop talking about divorce. We are Christians and I cannot divorce you. I’m a man of high standing in my church. What are people going to say about us if they hear that we have gone our separate ways? Please, stop talking about divorce. Let us continue our marriage. I have forgiven you for sleeping with the white man.” Her husband said.

However, Liza’s mind was made up. She wanted a divorce, and nothing would change her mind.

“I don’t want you anymore. I want to marry the white man.” Liza said.

The more Liza thought about her situation, the angrier she became. Chikobi was acting like he still loved her dearly. He started cooking for her, did laundry, and did many things for her in the apartment. For many days, Chikobi kept pampering her. It annoyed Liza. She didn’t need his kindness. She needed a way out. She needed something solid. Something that will force her husband to leave her alone. That was when the idea entered her mind. It was wicked, but she didn’t care.

She picked up her phone and called a makeup artist she had seen on Instagram. The lady was known for special effects makeup. She explained what she wanted. The makeup artist agreed to come the next morning.

The next morning, the makeup artist arrived. She was a young girl with a small kit bag. Liza explained again, whispering like someone who had just survived a tragedy.

“Make my face look as if someone gave me a serious beating.” Liza said. The girl nodded, then brought out red and black makeup. In less than thirty minutes, Liza’s face looked swollen. There was fake blood on her lips and a red mark on her cheek like a slap. Her left eye looked bruised. She looked at herself in the mirror and smiled. She looked like someone who had been beaten for days.

“Thank you,” she said to the makeup artist.

Then, Liza dialed the police emergency number 911.

“Hello? Please help me. My husband has been beating me… please…” Liza said.

She pretended to cry. Her voice sounded weak. She gave them the house address and hung up.

Within thirty minutes, two police officers arrived. They were both in uniform. Liza opened the door slowly, acting scared. When they saw her face, their expressions changed. They looked angry. They asked where her husband was. She told them he was in the backyard washing clothes. They rushed to get him. When they dragged him into the sitting room, he was confused.

“What is going on?” Chikobi asked.

The police didn’t answer. They told him he had the right to remain silent. He stared at Liza with shock.

“Liza, what is this? What’s happening?”

“You know what you did,” she said boldly.

The police put handcuffs on him. He tried to explain, but they didn’t listen.

They took him to the station and locked him up. His face was filled with confusion and pain. Meanwhile, Liza followed them calmly, her fake bruises still on her face. She said she wanted to write a statement. They gave her a pen and paper. She took her time and wrote slowly, making sure every sentence counted. She wanted the police to feel sorry for her.

“My name is Liza Chikobi. I am writing this statement because I fear for my life. I have been living in fear for the past three years. My husband, Mr. Chikobi, has been beating me and tormenting me. I have tried so hard to endure, but I can no longer continue like this. I need help.

“My husband hits me whenever he is angry. Sometimes it is because I did not cook early. Sometimes it is because I didn’t iron his clothes well. I live in fear every day. I cannot sleep without thinking about what will happen the next morning. I pretend that everything is fine.

“I have scars all over my body. Some are fresh, others are old. But I cover them with clothes and makeup. I do not know how I have survived this long. But I cannot pretend anymore. I want peace in my life. I want to breathe freely. I do not want to be a victim forever.

“On the 14th of August, my husband beat me so badly that I lost my pregnancy. I was three months pregnant. I cried and begged him to stop, but he didn’t stop until I fainted. When I woke up, I was in the hospital. The doctor told me I had lost the baby. My heart broke that day.

“I have suffered silently for too long. I have no family here. I have no one to run to. I hoped my husband would change, but he didn’t. Instead, things became worse. I believe he will kill me one day if I do not speak up. That is why I have come to you.

“I want the law to protect me. I want justice. I want my husband to face the consequences of his actions. I want to live again. I want to be happy again. I do not deserve to suffer like this. I do not want to die in the hands of a man who swore to love and protect me.

“I am begging this honorable police station to help me. I want to file for a divorce. I want full protection from my husband. I want my life back. I am tired of pretending. I am tired of hiding. I want the world to know what I am going through. I am innocent. Please help me.”

When she finished, she wiped fake tears from her eyes. The police officer nodded slowly. He looked at her with pity. He didn’t know it was all a lie. He believed every word she wrote. He said they would investigate the matter thoroughly. Liza thanked him and walked out of the station. She had done it. She had finally set her plan in motion. She didn’t care what happened to Chikobi anymore. She knows she lied against an innocent man. All she wanted was to be free.

The police station was calm that morning, but the officers were working seriously behind the scenes. The case Liza brought was not a small matter. It involved violence, marriage, and a possible attempt to send an innocent man to jail. The police decided to investigate properly. They didn’t want to rush the case. They didn’t want to send a man to prison for something he didn’t do. They wanted the truth. They brought out their files, assigned officers to the matter, and began to dig deeper into every detail Liza mentioned in her dramatic statement.

Later that day, they invited Chikobi into the interrogation room. He sat down quietly. He looked tired and confused. One of the officers cleared his throat and asked him to explain everything again from the beginning.

“Please, tell us what happened between you and your wife,” the officer said. Chikobi sighed. He looked at them with sad eyes.

“I did not beat my wife,” he said. “I never touched her. I still love her. She is the one who changed. She abandoned me. That is the truth.” The officers listened carefully.

He continued with a calm voice. “My wife got a student visa to study in America. I supported her. I sold my land. I used my savings. I gave her everything she needed to travel. I was excited for her future. But as soon as she arrived in America, she changed. She stopped calling me. She refused to pick my calls. Later, I found out she was staying with a rich white man. She told me she wanted to marry him. She told me she does not want me again.” The officers wrote everything down.

“Why did you come to America?” One police man asked.

“Sir, I only came to look for my wife,” Chikobi replied. “I love her. I did not want our marriage to crash. When she stopped picking my calls, I became worried. I wanted to talk to her in person. I wanted to fix things. I never came here to fight her. I never touched her. I did not beat her. She is trying to frame me so she can marry the white man.”

The officers exchanged looks. The story was taking a new direction. They asked him many more questions. “Did your wife ever tell you she was pregnant?” one asked.

“No. She was never pregnant to my knowledge. She never told me she lost any pregnancy. She never told me anything. She only pushed me away.” For the first time, the officers saw deep pain in his eyes. He was not acting. He was telling the truth. They knew it. They decided to check Liza’s statement again to see what was real and what was not.

The next day, they invited Liza to the station. She arrived confidently, wearing fancy clothes and carrying a designer handbag. She believed everything was already in her favour. She greeted the officers with a fake smile. “Good afternoon, officers,” she said. But their faces were not smiling. They asked her to sit down. She sat and crossed her legs, waiting for them to say something. Instead, they opened her file and placed it on the table. One of the officers cleared his throat.

“Madam Liza, we need more evidence from you,” he said.

“We want you to provide more proof that your husband beats you,” another officer added. Liza blinked rapidly. She did not expect that question.

“I already showed you my face,” she said. The officers shook their heads.

“We need more than makeup and pictures,” they said. “We want you to bring a doctor’s report that confirms you lost a pregnancy because of beating. We also want you to bring a pregnancy test result to prove you were pregnant. And we want witnesses. Anyone who saw your husband hitting you.”

Liza became worried. She did not know what to say. Her heart began to beat fast. She shifted in her chair. “Officer… I… I thought my statement was enough,” she said with a trembling voice. The officers leaned back and watched her quietly.

“Your statement is not enough,” the senior officer said. “This is America. We need evidence. We cannot just arrest a man and take him to court without proof. We need medical records, test results, and witnesses. You have made serious accusations. Now you must bring serious evidence.”

She felt her throat drying. “What if… what if I don’t have all those things?” she asked slowly. The officers exchanged another look. Then the senior officer replied, “If you cannot provide the evidence within two days, we will release your husband. We cannot keep him here without proof. And if we discover false information in your statement, you will face consequences.” Liza was shocked. She felt like the ground was shifting under her feet.

“Alright, officers,” she whispered.

She stood up and carried her bag with trembling hands. She managed to walk to the door. But the moment she stepped outside the police station, she stopped and held her head. Her mind was spinning. Her fake confidence disappeared instantly. She started breathing fast. Fear filled her chest. Sweat gathered on her forehead even though the weather was cool. She felt like screaming. She felt like running. She felt like disappearing. She never expected the police to turn the case around. She thought they would simply jail her husband.

As she walked away from the station, she spoke to herself in a panicked whisper. “These people have put me in a difficult corner. I don’t have any evidence. I don’t have any of those things they are asking for. I’m in trouble.”

The two days the police gave Liza were running out fast. Each time she looked at the calendar, she became troubled. She knew she had no proof that her husband beat her, but she was too proud to admit it. She could not let the police release him.

She wanted him to suffer. “If they release this man, I will never have peace,” she said to herself. She sat on her bed all night thinking of what to do. “I must be smart. I will not let this man win. I must find a way.”

The next morning, she picked her phone and called the makeup artist who helped her fake the injuries. “Hello, Sandra,” she said. “Please, I need your help again. I want you to come to the police station with me and tell them that you are my neighbor. Just tell them you always see my husband beating me. I will pay you well. Just act very well.”

The lady hesitated for a while but later agreed after hearing the amount Liza promised to pay. “Okay, I will do it,” Sandra said. “Just make sure my money is complete.”

Liza smiled with satisfaction. “Good. I will come and pick you up tomorrow morning. Please dress well. Talk with confidence. Tell them you are my neighbor and that you have seen my husband beat me many times.” Liza said.

After ending the call, Liza went online and searched for fake doctor’s reports. She found one website where people sold templates. She downloaded a sample, edited it, and typed her name on it. The report said she lost a pregnancy due to domestic violence. She printed it out and smiled proudly.

But she didn’t stop there. She also went online again and downloaded a fake pregnancy test result. She added her name and printed that one too. “Now I have everything,” she said to herself, smiling at her work. “Let’s see how the police will say I have no proof now. I will make sure they jail that man. I will make sure he regrets ever coming to America.” She gathered all the fake documents and kept them neatly in an envelope. She didn’t care that what she was doing was a big crime in America.

The next morning, she dressed beautifully and picked up Sandra, the makeup artist. As they drove to the police station, she kept coaching her on what to say. “Remember, you are my neighbor,” she said. “You live next door. You have seen me with swollen face many times. You even helped me once when my husband beat me until I fainted. Don’t forget those lines.” Sandra nodded nervously.

“I understand. Don’t worry, I will talk well.” Sandra said.

“Good,” Liza said. “Once we finish, I will give you the money immediately.”

When they got to the police station, the officers attended to her. “Madam Liza, did you bring the evidence we requested?” one of the officers asked.

“Yes,” she said confidently. “I brought everything.” She handed over the documents. “This is the doctor’s report that confirms I lost a pregnancy after my husband beat me. This one is the pregnancy test result that proves I was pregnant. And this woman here is my neighbor. She can testify that my husband beats me regularly.”

The police looked at her quietly. “Alright, madam,” one of them said. “Let’s hear from her.”

Sandra came forward and started talking. “Yes, officers, I am her neighbor,” she said, pretending to cry. “I have been seeing her husband beating her. He is a very wicked man. One night, he beat her till she fainted. I was the one who rushed in to help her. I have seen it with my eyes. He even threw things at her one day.” The police officers wrote everything down. They recorded her voice and took her statement. When they finished, they collected all the documents Liza brought.

“Thank you, madam. We will review this evidence,” they said.

Liza smiled proudly as she walked out of the police station with Sandra. “I have finally nailed that man,” she said with excitement. “By the time they finish reading all those documents, they will lock him up forever. I will be free to marry Robert and live my best life.”

She gave Sandra her money and drove home happily. She didn’t know that America was not like Nigeria. She didn’t know that the police would verify every detail she submitted. She didn’t know her joy would soon turn into shame.

The next day, the police began their investigation. They first checked the address of the makeup artist who claimed to be Liza’s neighbor. What they found shocked them. Sandra did not live anywhere near Liza. She lived two towns away. The police concluded that she lied. They also checked the hospital address that appeared on the doctor’s report and pregnancy test result. When they arrived there, the hospital did not exist. The building at the address was an empty warehouse. The police realized immediately that everything Liza brought was fake.

The officers called a meeting. They reviewed all their findings and concluded that Liza had lied from the beginning. They decided to act immediately. The next morning, they released Chikobi and apologized to him for what he went through. Then, they went straight to Liza’s house. When she opened the door and saw the officers, she smiled, thinking they came to tell her that her husband had been jailed. But the police officer looked her in the eyes and said firmly, “You are under arrest for giving false evidence to the police and trying to frame a man who is innocent.”

When the police finished their investigation, they decided to press charges against Liza. The evidence of forgery and false accusation was too clear. They could not ignore it. They wrote their report and presented it to the court. Liza was formally charged for giving false information to the police and for trying to frame her husband. When Chikobi heard about it, he was heartbroken. He couldn’t believe that his wife, the woman he came all the way from Nigeria to find, was now facing prison because of him. He begged the police to stop the case.

“Please, officers,” Chikobi said with tears in his eyes. “I don’t want to press charges against her. I don’t want her to go to jail. She is still my wife. I still love her. I came here to find her, not to destroy her life. I don’t want this case to continue.”

The police officers looked at him with pity, but they could not change anything. “Sir, we understand how you feel,” one of them said. “But this is America. The case is no longer in your hands. It is a case between Liza and the government.”

Liza was taken to court. The day of her hearing, she looked tired and broken. Her face was dull, and her eyes were swollen from crying. As she stood in the courtroom, she could see her husband sitting at the back, watching quietly.

When the judge asked her to speak, she said, “I am sorry. I made a mistake. I was afraid of losing the man I love. I didn’t know it would go this far.” But her apology could not change the law. The judge found her guilty and sentenced her to a few weeks in jail.

The moment the judge pronounced the sentence, Liza burst into tears. “Please, Your Honour, have mercy,” she cried. “I am not a bad person. I just wanted my freedom.” But it was too late. The police took her away immediately. Chikobi followed them quietly. He didn’t want her to feel abandoned. Even though she betrayed him, his heart still loved her. For all the weeks that Liza was in jail, Chikobi kept visiting her. He brought food and tried to talk to her, but she refused to say a word. She always looked away whenever he tried to speak.

“Liza, please talk to me,” he said one day as he sat across the glass barrier. “I still love you. I have forgiven you. I know you acted out of confusion. Please, let’s talk about what we will do when you come out. I am not angry anymore.”

But Liza kept quiet. She refused to lift her eyes. She didn’t want to see his face. Deep down, she was ashamed. She could not believe that the man she betrayed was still showing her love. She felt trapped in guilt and pain, and she did not know how to respond.

Meanwhile, Robert, the white man who had promised to marry her, found out what happened. One of his friends told him everything. “Do you know that the woman you wanted to marry is in jail?” the friend said. “She was arrested for trying to frame her husband. The story is everywhere online.” Robert was shocked. He couldn’t believe it. He had thought Liza traveled to Nigeria to process her divorce, not to fake reports and get her husband arrested. He sat down for hours, thinking about what to do. Then he made up his mind to visit her in jail.

When Robert entered the jail and saw Liza, she was surprised. She didn’t expect to see him again. “Robert,” she said softly. “You came to see me?” He nodded. “Yes, I came. But not for the reason you think.” She looked at him with hope.

“Please don’t leave me,” she said. “You are the only one I have left. Everyone has turned their back on me. Please, Robert, I need you.” But his face remained serious.

“Liza, I heard everything. You tried to frame your husband just because you wanted to be free. That’s not love. That’s wickedness.”

Tears filled Liza’s eyes as she tried to explain. “Robert, please, I didn’t mean to harm him. I was desperate. You said you wouldn’t marry me unless I divorced him. I didn’t know what else to do. I was scared that you would leave me.”

Robert shook his head. “No, Liza. You could have done things the right way. You could have gone back to Nigeria and divorced him properly. But instead, you chose lies and false accusations. What you did was evil. You don’t frame a man who did nothing wrong just to get your way. That’s not right.”

He leaned closer and continued, “As much as I wanted to marry you, I cannot continue with this relationship. You have shown me that you can do anything to get what you want. I can’t live with that kind of fear. What if one day, you wake up angry and do to me what you did to your husband? I can’t trust you, Liza. You appear to be a dangerous person. If I marry you, you could wake up one day and frame me the way you framed your husband. It’s over between us.” Robert said.

Liza finally finished serving her jail sentence. She came out looking weak and worn out. Life in prison had changed her. She wanted to start afresh. Her plan was to go back to school and complete her studies. She believed that once she focused on her education, everything would be fine again. The morning she stepped back into the school compound, she felt a small sense of hope. But that hope died immediately she was called into the Dean’s office. The Dean looked at her seriously.

“Miss Liza, we regret to inform you that you have been expelled.” The dean said.

She stood up in shock. “What? Expelled? For what?” she asked with tears already forming in her eyes. The Dean sighed. “We read about your case in the news. The school has a reputation to protect. You brought shame to this institution. You were charged for false evidence and forgery. The entire city read your name on the internet. We cannot have someone like you as our student anymore.” Liza started shaking.

“Sir, please, I have changed. I just want to continue my education.” But her words meant nothing. The decision had already been made.

When she came out of the Dean’s office, she could hardly stand. Her legs felt weak. She walked to a bench and sat down quietly. Everything she worked for was gone. Just then, two police officers arrived in a car. One of them walked straight to her and said, “Miss Liza, you need to come with us.”

Liza’s heart became troubled. “What did I do again?” she asked. “You didn’t do anything new,” the officer said. “But since you are no longer a student, you have no valid reason to stay in this country. You are hereby deported to Nigeria today.”

Liza’s eyes widened in disbelief. “Deported? Today?” she cried. “Please, give me time to arrange my things. I have nowhere to go.”

But the police refused. They took her straight to the airport. Everything happened so fast that she couldn’t even inform anyone. Within hours, she was on a plane to Nigeria. Her heart was troubled. She thought about her husband. She wondered if he would still accept her. She wondered if she could ever rebuild her life again. As the plane took off, she closed her eyes and whispered, “God, please give me another chance.”

Coincidentally, that same day, Chikobi also returned to Nigeria. He had heard about the deportation and felt that it was time to go home too. Deep down, he still had a soft spot for Liza. He told himself that if he saw her again, he would try to fix their marriage. He believed she had suffered enough.

When Liza arrived at the airport in Lagos, she was surprised to see him waiting there. He helped her carry her bag without saying a word. She looked weak and embarrassed. “Thank you,” she said quietly. “Let’s go home,” he replied calmly.

For a few days, they stayed together. They didn’t talk much, but the silence was peaceful. Then one morning, Liza came out of the room with tears on her face.

“Chikobi,” she said slowly, “there is something I need to tell you.” He turned to her. “What is it?” She took a deep breath.

“I am pregnant,” she said. Chikobi froze. He looked at her for a long time without saying anything. “Pregnant?” he finally asked.

“Yes,” she whispered. “It happened before I went to jail. Please forgive me. Robert got me pregnant. I know I made mistakes. But this child can be our new beginning.”

Chikobi stood up, breathing heavily. “Our new beginning? Liza, are you hearing yourself? You were with another man. That child is not mine!”

Liza broke down. “I know. I know the baby is not yours. But please, forgive me. I still love you. I don’t have anyone else. Please don’t leave me again.”

But Chikobi shook his head. “Liza, I can forgive everything else — the lies, the shame, the pain — but I cannot accept another man’s baby. I can’t raise what is not mine. You have crossed a line that I cannot return from.”

He walked away from her and started packing her things. “Please, don’t do this,” Liza cried, holding his leg.

“I have nowhere to go. I’m begging you.” But he didn’t listen. “Go and stay with the father of your child,” he said. “I have tried. I came all the way to America to find you. I forgave you even after everything. But this is where it ends.”

He pushed her bag outside the door and locked it. Liza sat on the ground, weeping uncontrollably. The neighbours gathered, whispering about her. Her shame had followed her even back home.

That night, Liza stayed in a small guesthouse. She couldn’t sleep. She kept thinking about everything — the jail, the deportation, the rejection. The more she thought, the more she cried. She decided she couldn’t keep the pregnancy.

“I can’t have this child,” she said to herself. “It will remind me of my shame forever.” The next morning, she went to a chemist and bought abor.tion medicine. The woman warned her, “Madam, take only two.” But in her confusion, Liza took too many. She went back to her room and lay down, waiting for it to end.

Minutes later, she started ble.eding heavily. She screamed and held her stomach, but there was no one around to help. Her phone was off. She tried to reach the door, but she couldn’t stand.

“God, please forgive me,” she whispered weakly. “I just wanted peace.” Within a few minutes, her voice faded. She took one last breath and died on the floor. When the people in the guesthouse found her the next morning, it was too late. That was how Liza’s story ended — a story of love, betrayal, and regret.

The End.
